Creating some smiles at Chelsea and Westminster hospital.

One of the most fulfilling events I’ve been involved in during 2010 was with Sadler’s Wells’ Company of Elders who performed my choreography “Timeless Touch” at Chelsea and Westminster Hospital.

The atmosphere was great!  Patients and families stopped by to watch the company dancing, as did staff (if they had a moment!) but my favourite moment was when three of the company members Mary, Sandy and Jeanette and I went into the wards and created some improvised movement to different types of music.  It was quite difficult to know if we were either entertaining them or disturbing their space to start with.  I played the music quite quietly and asked the dancers to follow me during the improvisation.  Every ward, every room was different.  People watched, some slept through it, some came and joined us and the staff were also engaged in the performances.  Whatever we did and however we did it we made a difference in some people’s lives and we could see it in their faces and smiles as they watched!
