~ Simona Scotto ~
When you see yourself improving month after month, the confidence it gives you in other areas of your life is dramatic. Learning to dance you’ll not only have fun expressing yourself through movement but you’ll rise to the physical and mental challenges and see how much you’re capable of.
If you’re looking to improve your balance or co-ordination, your self-confidence or memory, learning to dance can help you do all of these things. And the best part… you get to have fun with lots of other likeminded people all having a go too!
What style of dance would you like to learn?
As a choreographer and educator, Simona is challenging our view of ageing by training over 55’s in dance works that push them beyond what they think possible. Men and women of all ages are seeing the results and beginning to think differently about ageing and the older person.
A tongue-in-cheek look at being a woman beyond “a certain age”…
and not giving a damn!
For the past 8 years Simona’s company Counterpoint Dance has been a medium for exploring many of her creative ideas, from specific projects like Migrations (funded by grants from Arts Council England) to her bigger mission of challenging the sedate and diminishing image of elders that our society holds.
Simona has created a company that utilises and continually improves the capacity of her dancers (who are all over 55yrs), ultimately presenting a vibrant image of the older person that challenges audiences across the globe.
Have you always wanted to learn to dance and now you have the time to do it? Ballet, Contemporary, something else? Maybe you’d like to get started again after a long time off?
Simona teaches a ranges of adult dance classes for over 55’s with various styles and skill levels, come and learn in a friendly and enjoyable class.
Simona has been choreographing for older dancers since her early days with Sadler’s Wells’ Company of Elders. Since then Simona has produced commissions for AIR, a Central Saint Martins research studio, for Cubitt Artists and for Claremont Project amongst others.
Simona’s recent projects include her body of work on Migrations Europa Exchange, funded by Arts Council England. Other notable projects include licensing her unique approach to teaching elders and continuing her masterclass relationships with London Contemporary Dance School and also University of Bedfordshire.
